PUNCH LISTS - WHY WAIT TILL THE END?

Blog: August 9, 2018
There are several benefits when you start using punch lists with FinishLine soon after groundbreaking.

Most of us think of the construction punch list as an activity that happens either at the end of a project, or as various sections of a project are completed and turned over. Although these are crucial times, why not make it easier on yourself and your team by starting to inspect earlier and often?

There are several benefits when you start using punch lists with FinishLine soon after groundbreaking.

Improved Quality
The earlier you catch and document QA/QC issues, the more time your team has to fix problems. Site observations can be done in the early stages of a project and it’s going to make your final punch a lot easier for everyone. Use the comments field in FinishLine along with attaching photos, plan annotations and files to clearly document site conditions and issues when you report them to the responsible parties.
Better Documentation

The earlier you start on punch lists, the more documentation you’ll to refer back to. A checklist like an In-Wall inspection can be completed during the early stages of a project. Before the drywall goes up, is the duct work properly installed, or is the rough-in of equipment and fixtures complete? Snap a photo of the work before the drywall installation is done. Easy access to this type of documentation can be crucial down the line.

Make it Routine

Using a punch list on regular basis will make it a habit and helps to take the guesswork out of when to inspect. As part of a Rolling Punch you can pre-inspect areas prior to final punch to mitigate the amount of work required to close out the project. Not only will it become part of your routine, but your team members and subcontractors will also become more familiar with the app and receiving reports via email.

More Bang for Your Buck

Extract more benefits from FinishLine by implementing earlier and often. Take advantage of FinishLine’s unlimited inspection types. For instance, you probably already have a safety program in place, but you could use FinishLine as a way for inspectors to easily communicate hazards they encounter during their day to day work. Using FinishLine in new ways increases the value for your team.
